LETTERS

The following letters are from some former neighbors who were kind enough to write to us:

"I lived at 3423 Glendon Drive from 1930 to 1950, my "growing up" years. It was a wonderful neighborhood full of children, riding bikes and making clubhouses in the woods. We had a lighted badminton court at the bottom of our steep terraced back yard, and neighborhood tournaments went on there all summer long. I remember the Cotter farm (on the left as you turn off Brainerd Road onto Vista) and the wonderful horses that ran through the pasture (they tore down that beautiful mansion on the hill, dug away the hill and built a supermarket or some such). I remember the snowfall of 1934 that closed the schools for a full week and allowed us to sled from the top of the hill all the way straight down to Germantown Road. We all went to Missionary Ridge School and usually walked home unless the weather was bad. My father bought us a printing press and we published the gossipy 'Glendon Gazette' whenever the mood struck us. It's nice to see that the neighborhood spirit is still there. Have you thought of having a reunion or homecoming?" - Dr. Martha McDonald, M.D.

"I grew up in the neighborhood and loved it. I live in Knoxville now, in a neighborhood that's similar to Glendon Place.  One suggestion I have that would be really nice is to maybe add some pictures of the neighborhood to the web site. You could get photos of the Halloween cookouts, and maybe some more during the times when the luminaries are out during Christmas. Also, it would be interesting to get info on the history of the neighborhood sometime. It's just an idea I thought I'd pass along. Keep up the good work on the web site!
